brets Vs. empire

just wondering the big differences in army composition and play style in these two armies. the basics will be enough. also intrested in thier differences hobby wise.

Brets are going to be primarily Cavalry & Heavy Cavalry. Your basic strategy is to cross the board and get into combat on turn 2. You've got decent magic iirc and a few nasty surprises with pegasus knights and the Green knight (ethereal).

Empire is a more balanced army that also has Cavalry but can field a solid gunline type army with cannon, hellblasters, archers, pistols, vindicators and sniper rifles.

Brets should put you in mind of Arthurian knights with each model displaying their own family colors, while Empire is based on a later period in central europe and would have a more consistent scheme

Power-wise, Empire would be considered a stronger book, though speculation has a new Bretonnian book this year.

Uhhh can you KB the steam tank? Thought it was treated like a warmachine for most stuff. I know Frost Blade works on it.

brets have a vow ok killing blow on large modles IE. large targets

just need to grab another box of knights and i'll be ready for 500 point games, but got a question for fantasy in general since im not buying the BRB till 8th ed launch. whats the difference in a hand weapon and a great weapon?

another question, what do the command options for units do? like muscians standard bearers and champion's?

great weapon will give you +2 strength in combat, but you'll strike last unless you charge. They need 2 hands so you can't use a shield. With mounted troops, you only get a +1 strength bonus.

For the command, unit champ will have a better profile and can always attack back even if the front rank has been killed. They can also give and respond to challenges.
Standard bearer gives you +1 combat res and may be allowed to carry a magical banner.
Musicians give the unit +1 to their leadership when attempting to rally, and in the event of tied comabt where the other unit doesn't have a musician will give +1 to combat res.

Good call martin never use the great wepons when your mounted just a bad idea.
