Competitive empire army

Hey guys I am trying to come up with a competitive empire army around 2200-2500 points. I am thinking elite combat with heavy artillery and magic some where in there. Empire is still a jack of all trades yet a master of none which makes it a little difficult for me because I like time specialize in one area ( combat) more than the others. I do really like the hell blasters and I also can't really make up my mind what would be more effective points for points- Demi gryph knights or great swords. What do you guys think?

demigryph nights over greatswords. just for fast that they harder to kill

Which toughness stat do you use? I never use monstrous cavelry so do you go by the monsters toughness or the knights toughness? I need t learn the rules for monsterous cavelry lol

i think its which ever is higher

for monsterous cav you use the riders toughness, and the mounts dont get the attack in ranks. 4 demis are nice, but they fill a different niche than the greatswords. stubborn, detach etc. plus a warrior priest added to the demis does not get look out sir cause of base size. it all depends on composition of the army. if you roll watchtower and only have mounted, who occupies the tower? stubborn greatswords will do that pretty well. there are also detachments to keep in mind. if your priest gives the unit the flaming buff, it goes to the 2x 10 detachment of shooters to weaken those with regen. hellblasters with engineer are borderline amazing. steamtank is now viable even with a few wounds on it.

so the demi vs GS thing has more to do with army composition and what you need that unit to do. as i hae 40 teut guard models i am prolly gonna go that route just to put those models on the table.
