2500 HE list

Hey guys! I'm starting to slowly build up my second army now, which I've elected to be high elves! I wanted to try to find some sort of list online to try to start building my army towards. I seen this list and actually kind of liked the sound of it, but I wanted to get everyones opinion on it. What do you guys think of this list/ the mentioned tactics?

Archmage Lvl4 w/ power scroll @ 295
The mage will take lore of life, to pump up all the troops and be the suppport to the army throughout the game. The power scroll will be used hopefully as a crippling combo with my assassin archmage

The assassin mage is meant to run up on the flank of the enemy and blast 6 dice at purple sun with the assistance from the other archmage's power scroll
i should have no probelm blasting the spell with I.F., the other spells are meant to single out and kill enemy mages and even the bsb and general if the oppurtunity arises. Life leeching can be awesome if u take out half of ur enemies army ur probably goin to roll enough 5/6 to get a full dice pool

Lore of Shadow (smoke and mirrors)
this mage will use melkoth's mistifiying miasma, to lower the I of a critical enemy unit (maybe a unbreakable unit or someother pimped out guys) the smoke and mirros will be used if the lvl 4 archmage has enemies right in his face to help evade danger and it will help to allow the bsb to be able to more with ease and aid in key battles

Noble BSB(Banner of balance) w/great weapon and dragon armor @ 169
the noble will attempt to negate all those crazy frenzied troops that slaughter my poor fragile elves, and keep my troops from fleeing do to bein charged by a terror causer.

i know im not takin advantage of the hoard rule but i feel that high elves biggest weakness is not being able to have enough units this will help me lockdown a couple units and i should stay steadfast for at least one round maybe more, and as long as i continue to pump up my units with the lvl4 archmage they should last

archers 15 standard bearer and musican@ 180

these guys good for a couple reasons. ill hide them in a forest and shot at enemies maybe they will get charged but ill just flee hopefully leaving my enemy in range for a counter charge. they can also support on the flank or rear to lockdown a unit and probably break the rank bonus.

Phoniex Guard 20 (banner of sorcery) w/full command @ 380
This unit is just to help sheild my lvl 4 mage and bsb from magic and range,
also if i happen to miscast the 4+ ward save sould be able to soak up most of it

White lions 24 (banner of disipline) w/ full command @ 405
Now this unit is the most costly in the army and im the least confident about it. they have the potential to crush whatever they touch with S6 and they should last pretty well against shooting but with a weak armor save in melee im pretty much depending on crushing my enemy in the first round of combat or they will die. with the banner they are leadership 9 and with being stubborn they wont run, hopefully allowin me one extra turn to flank charge. i could also replace them with swordmasters and just chew through troops.

Couple things make me think this list was written not long after 8th came out.

Obviously it's pre powerscroll nerf, the other thing is just the sizes of the units.
Other than that it's a purple sun delivery system. If that gets shut down, you'll need a plan b.

The mage tactics are kinda off too.
If you need to use smoke and mirrors to bail out your L4 (who has the sorcery banner protecting him), things are probably pretty dire already.
Using a L3 as a suicide purple sun is asking to get shot or dealt with long before he manages to run up anyones flank.
Better way to do it is to run the L1 up the flank, miasma, then use smoke an mirrors to put the L3 in his position. Better chance not to get molested. Of course if he fails to cast he's left hanging.

I see what your saying, I just thought this was a really interesting list. I dont have much experience outside of the Orcs and Goblins so I am trying to slowly figure it all out. I am looking for a good list to work towards with my high elf army.

Does anybody have any suggestions on expanding a 2500 pt list from here? I got some suggestions to really stock up on White Lions. Does anybody have any good tournament 2500 pt High Elf list they can share so I have some direction in how to develop this army? This is my second warhammer army and I can't wait to get it together!

Hordes of 30 white lions are really resiliant and can pack such a big punch. I'd take at least one of 30 if not two of 30.

Since u have WHite lions and sword masters I'd try for a list with 25-30 of each, a unit of archers and spearman/sea guard for core, a couple eagles, 2-3 bolt throwers, lvl 4 caster, bsb with 2+ armor, 5+ward and great weapon. Play it proxy a few games and see what works and what doesn't. Maybe try silver helms or play them as dragon princes.

I'd really recommended some eagles, at least two. Amazing ridiectors and warmachine hunters Chaff is always useful.
