So my question is either how do I make tk viable in combat or what units are good redirectors or good against infantry?

Played a dude a couple times who had Carrion vultures for redirecting/war machines. Then you've got chariots and those knight things that are pretty good but the big bases make it hard to get everyone fighting.
Combat-wise I've only been worried about them if they got off the dessication spell.

I thought about carrions. Chariots are good but you gotta know ur going to kill what you charge with them. I think war squinxes may he better then knights. But not sure.

I'd say just archers for core, dually SCatpult and a casket. 3 warsphinxes for combat and whatever characters you want. Arkhan is a beast but tricky to protect, I like 2 lvl 4's one with light and one with nehekara personally.
